Our History
Bulldog Basketball Club:
Bulldog Basketball Club was founded in 2007 at Volma Overton Elementary School in Northeast Austin, TX with the purpose of teaching forth & fifth grade boys the importance of Academics, Attitude, Effort, and Excellence in finding success in life. The club operated for 6 years and had many successes both on and off the court including two city championships and a 90+% pass rate on state tests with 36% of those tests being “Commended.” Over 100 kids were members of Bulldog Basketball and many 100’s more participated in the free clinics the club offered each year. The last of the Bulldog Basketball players graduated high school in 2020. Bulldog Basketball Club was awarded 501(c)3 non-profit status with the IRS in 2010.
Community Hoops:
Community Hoops (name change in 2020) furthers the mission of Bulldog Basketball Club. We offer low-cost Basketball Skills Clinics, Youth Basketball Coaches Clinics, and an annual Community Hoops Camp which is 3 days of activities that teach music, the arts, literacy, culture, and basketball to 100 Austin children. To help improve youth literacy, every child who completes a Community Hoops program receives a free book. Our volunteer Staff bring a vast array of expertise and are enthusiastic about giving back to the Austin community.
