Founder & President
Coach Edwards currently serves as an Assistant Boys Basketball Coach at Austin High School. He is a National Board Certified Teacher with 19 years experience in the classroom. Dave leads the Austin Basketball Coaches Group where 275 basketball coaches from around the world share their knowledge of the game. ABCG is a proud partner of Community Hoops. Dave has been involved in coaching for over 25 years.

Brittany Edwards
Vice President & Secretary
Brittany is an experienced PR and marketing communications strategist. In her role at Community Hoops, she supports the overall operational and administrative needs of the organization to drive forward the mission of impacting youth’s lives through the game of basketball. Brittany is a college basketball fanatic, was an integral part of helping found Bulldog Basketball Club, and enjoys being involved in the community by also serving on the PTA Board of her children’s local elementary school.

Leighton Hendrick
Board Member
Leighton is an experienced SEO and digital marketing strategist. In her role at Community Hoops, Leighton helps with camp logistics, promotion, and development. As an avid supporter of Bulldog Basketball, Leighton spearheaded the organization’s efforts to raise funds for annual trips and tournaments. Leighton loves cookbooks and cooking, running, and working out and sharing gardening tips with her neighbors and friends.

Dr. Brian Hill
Board Member
Dr. Hill served as an assistant coach for Bulldog Basketball while teaching at Volma Overton Elementary School. Since then he has served as a supervisor, principal, and special assistant to the superintendent in Austin ISD. He earned a Doctor of Education degree in educational leadership and policy from the University of Texas and won 2019 Region 13 TEPSAN of the Year, an award for Texas elementary principals and supervisors. Dr. Hill currently serves as Assistant Superintendent of the Mesa County Valley School District 51 in Colorado.

Carlos de la Garza
Board Member, Director of the Arts
Carlos is a National Board Certified educator who has served as an elementary art teacher in Austin ISD for 23 years. His students’ work has been displayed in both city-wide and state-wide art shows. Carlos has hosted many after school art programs including an annual mural club and a contest club, with many students winning local and district art contests. His illustrations are featured in the book Daddy, Can You See the Moon? Carlos frequently volunteers his time at school and church functions and has worked at several camps and festivals.

Joan Bone
Director of Music
Joan is a retired Music Educator of 28 years. While teaching at Volma Overton Early College Prep, Joan founded/ directed the choir and wrote the school songs. She also taught music groups before and after school so children would have a chance to participate. She has taught choir and music to students from K-12 in Victoria ISD and Austin ISD, served as Region Vocal Chair for Middle School and High School Choir and taught private voice lessons. Joan is currently a caregiver for her Mother, but still manages to sing with two church choirs and two community choirs and work with children in the performing arts.
